Pet Bond Law Colombia. If passed, there will be a historic turning point in Colombia. A proposed law will recognise the ‘sentimental bond‘ between humans and their pets, whose death can have a ‘significant emotional impact‘ on people. But what does this initiative led by Liberal Party politician Alejandro Carlos Chacon aim at? It aims to give workers paid leave to get over the death of their dog.
Therefore, two days of paid leave will be given to anyone on their staff mourning their furry friend’s passing. To the news site El Tiempo, Chacon said: ‘Some people don’t have children, but they have a beloved pet. You can develop a deep, brotherly bond with him. According to him, this can be a good way to help those who cannot ‘overcome the pain and suffering of losing these beloved animals’.
The employer must compulsorily grant paid leave for the death of the dog.

The Colombian politician continues, “At the very least, he will not have to worry about work.” The population welcomed this bill since six out of ten families in the country own a pet. The project was presented to the Secretary General of the House of Representatives and aimed to recognise the mourning and loss of a faithful companion in the same way as a family member.
The aim is to establish a fundamental obligation for the employer, who will be obliged to grant this paid leave to overcome the death of his employee’s dog. To qualify for the benefit, one must inform one’s employer of the presence of a pet in the family.
In addition, they must provide proof of the furry animal’s demise, with penalties provided for those who lie or give false certification. Finally, now that the decree law is deposited, four debates must pass between the Senate and the House of Representatives before it can be implemented. Would you want this in England?
