Pet cremation jewellery. Suppose you are losing a loved one, whether human or animal; it is one of the most challenging experiences you will face in life. To help keep the memories alive, many of us like to have a physical reminder to keep on hand something beautiful and meaningful that contains the essence of a deceased friend.

Davenport Memorial Glass specialises in just this type of physical reminder, creating pet memorial pieces that infuse a small number of a loved one’s ashes with beautiful glass artwork. Pet paw glass pendants are trendy and small enough to carry a little piece of your beloved cat or dog wherever you go.

A memory that will last forever

Cameron Davenport, the owner, said, “Our goal is to capture a moment physically, to create a keepsake that brings back a memory,” Davenport writes on their website: “Nothing will compare to the time you spent with your loved one, but we hope to help you treasure and remember the precious time you spent together.

While pets are a huge part of many of our lives, no traditional memorialisation custom exists. If pet lovers decide to do something, most will choose to bury their furry friends. Pet cemeteries exist, and people can choose to bury or cremate their pets along with headstones and statues, just as we do for humans.

However, if you do not have a pet cemetery nearby and feel that perhaps a formal burial is too much, Davenport’s pet memorial jewellery offers an elegant alternative. All you have to do is get a teaspoon of cremation ashes and mail them to Davenport. You could also get a paw print pendant.

Davenport also makes glass jewellery and artwork without adding ashes simply for its aesthetic value. This ancient art has been around for centuries, and Davenport uses classical techniques combined with modern methods to create their masterpieces. “I started blowing glass in 2003, Cameron Davenport, the man behind the company, told:

It all began after the loss of a beloved friend

After many years of struggling, I finally took a class from an artist named Phil Siegel. This was when everything changed. I started focusing more on art and less on function and working more on making it clean and uniform rather than just sellable.

About ten years ago, I lost a dear friend. I was given a spoonful of his ashes that I had just put on my bookshelf for several years.

One day, it occurred to me, and I turned it into a memorial marble for jewellery. Several friends thought it was an excellent idea and asked me to make a commemorative glass. After that, it just exploded in an avalanche.

Cameron has a unique technique for infusing ash that he prefers to keep secret, having spent years working hard to perfect it. “The ash puts a lot of stress on the glass while working with it, making it very difficult to work with,” he explained. “I have had many glass artists contact me and ask me how I do it. Then, finally, I would be ready to teach a class one day.

The job is sad for Cameron, as many of his clients are still grieving. Cameron takes the time to make a personal connection with his clients, so he often listens to the background behind requests for custom pieces. “One of the hardest parts of my job is listening to stories about SIDS. It eats me up inside. I get a lot of sad e-mails and often need to take breaks from reading,” he said.

Of course, there is also the other side. Cameron’s craftsmanship produces pieces beyond art and becomes cherished memories that can make a difference in his clients’ lives. “One of my favourite parts of my job is the smiles and tears I get from my customers,” he says.

They love the work I do for them and the meaning behind it. With each passing day, I become more and more grateful for the people in my life and the time I spend with them. Doing this kind of work brings out the love in my life.

Here are some of the keepsakes they offer:

  • Cremation paw pendants
  • Cremation dog bone
  • Sterling silver paw locket
  • Coloured halo pendants
  • Cat cremation paw
  • Heart pendants
  • Icicle ornaments
  • Glass elephant
  • Fumed halo pendant with crushed opal

Cameron uses his talents to help many people during their pet bereavement process. He is incredibly adorable.
