The Moving Story Of Carlos And The Last Days Of His Labradoodle’s Life

The man drove Monty to his home in London and buried him in the Garden; after all, it will always be part of his life.

Carlos and his Labradoodle, Buddy, were inseparable. They went on walks together, played fetch in the park, and slept in the same bed. When Buddy was diagnosed with cancer, Carlos was devastated.

Carlos and his Labradoodle. A dog is a friend we have for life, and we know that together with him, we will have a series of beautiful moments that we will not forget. But sooner or later, there will be the day when we will part; dogs do not live as long as humans on average. Of course, it won’t be easy, but we must make the best of it.

A 180-mile journey to the Brecon Beacons in Wales

Carlos Fresco is a hotelier from London who had a 10-year-old Labradoodle named Monty. Monty was diagnosed with leukaemia 18 months ago and has been undergoing chemotherapy. However, the cancer returned eight weeks ago, and Monty’s health declined rapidly.

Carlos wanted to spend his last days with his dog and see him as happy as possible; he wanted to make those moments memorable. One of their favourite hobbies was hiking, so Carlos organised a particularly intense trip to the hills and mountains.

Knowing that Monty hadn’t much time left, Carlos took him on one last adventure together. They drove 180 miles to the Brecon Beacons in Wales, where they had hiked many times. This time, Carlos pushed Monty up Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons, in a wheelbarrow.

The journey was difficult, but Monty was determined to reach the top. He wagged his tail and licked Carlos’ face the whole way up. Monty lay down and took in the view when they finally reached the summit. He was so happy to be there with his best friend, and here, he still says, he cherishes one of the most beautiful moments spent in the animal’s company.

Carlos placed him in a wheelbarrow covered with soft blankets to make the task easier for his Labrador.

The final goodbye to his dog with cancer.

Carlos placed him in a wheelbarrow covered with soft blankets to make his task more manageable and gave him his favourite stuffed animal. Along the way, the two met other hikers who immediately empathised with Monty.

Carlos says: “They all took turns helping to push the barrow, and Monty enjoyed that because he’d always adored people and being made a fuss of“.

I was bowled over by the kindness we were shown, to be honest – total strangers taking the time to say ‘hello’ and lend a hand in getting him to the summit.”

A few weeks later, Monty has reached the end of the most important journey of his life.

Monty passed away peacefully a few days later. Carlos Fresco is grateful that he can give his beloved dog one last adventure. He says that Monty is the best dog he could have ever asked for.

He hung on until the morning after Father’s Day – I peered over the mattress, and he’d gone,” Carlos said.

He added: “Our little companions are never judgemental, are always there waiting for you and offer comfort when things haven’t gone well.”

I would like to thank all the wonderful people we met in Brecon and on the hills for their true kindness and genuine sympathy.”

He was truly a special boy. God bless and goodnight, little fella.”

The story of Carlos Fresco and Monty has touched the hearts of many people. It is a reminder of the special bond between humans and animals. It is also a reminder that life still has beauty, even in the face of death.
